‘Red Delicious’ apple fruit color under hail nets in Mexico

El cultivar de manzana ‘Red Delicious’ fue sometido a dos diferentes tratamientos de sombreado, al momento del amarre de fruto inicial, con malla antigranizo color negro, color blanco y sin malla como testigo. Los frutos fueron muestreados en los lados con mayor y menor iluminación solar, sur y norte, respectivamente. Se tomaron dos muestras de la parte externa de las orientaciones sur y norte. Los muestreos fueron realizados durante los meses de julio, agosto y septiembre de 1999. Se realizaron mediciones de color utilizando un colorímetro, con los parámetros L y °h. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto del color de la malla antigranizo en el desarrollo del color de los frutos en el cultivar de manzana ‘Red Delicious’ en la región de Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, México. Los valores de Hue, 0.65° para la manzana bajo malla negra, 0.59° para manzana sin malla y de 0.50° para manzana bajo malla blanca, fueron estadísticamente iguales en la última fecha de muestreo y en todos los muestreos, lo que indican que ninguno de los tratamientos de sombreado utilizados afectaron al desarrollo del color rojo de los frutos.
Abstract
‘Red Delicious’ apple cultivar was grown under two different shading treatments, at initial fruit set stage, by using black and white color hail nets and no nets as a control. Fruit were sampled on the most and least sun light illuminated tree sides, south and north, respectively. Two samples were taken from the outside tree canopy, south and north orientations. Samples were done during July, August and September, 1999. Fruit color measurements were done by using a colorimeter, using the L and °h color coordinates. Objective for this study was to evaluate the effect of hail net color on the ‘Red Delicious’ apple fruit development in Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, México region. Hue values for fruit under black hail net was 0.65°, 0.59° for fruit with no nets over it, and 0.50° for fruit under white hail net, were statistically equal on the last sample date, as for all the dates sampled, which indicates that none of the shading treatments used affected red fruit color development.
