Abstract
The aim of this review was to provide a description of the main viruses affecting potato crop as well as the techniques currently used for detection and identification. Some of the viruses that afflict potato crop in the world are PLRV, PVY, and PVX, which can also produce mixed infections that exacerbate yield and quality losses. Therefore, the accurate diagnosis of these causal agents is an essential prerequisite for effective control. Thus, a wide range of serological methods, bioassays with indicator plants and molecular techniques have been developed and are currently in use in many diagnostic laboratories. This manuscript will provide guidance to personnel that is involved in the diagnostic and control of the main phytopathogenic viruses of potato.
