Abstract

The change of regime in Mexico brought with it a whirlwind of changes, actions and contradictions in the conduct of science policy. The Mexican government, regardless of party affiliation, must continue to support graduate students in the natural sciences, who face great challenges in their academic training. This investment in human capital will facilitate the country's transition towards a development based on the knowledge economy, and the formation of critical and conscious people that our country needs so much. I invite you to reflect on the opinion article: Is it pertinent to study a graduate degree in natural sciences in Mexico, even when there are multiple challenges in science?

Author Biography

  • César Humberto Rivera Figueroa, UACH. Editor en Jefe Emérito

    Es Ingeniero Agrónomo con orientación en Fitotecnia por parte de la Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua. Tiene Maestría en Ciencias con especialidad en Genética por parte de la Escuela Nacional de Agricultura y especialidad en Horticultura por parte de New Mexico State University. Cuenta con un Doctorado en Ciencias con orientación en Genética, Fisiología y Estadística por parte de New Mexico State University. Se ha desempeñado como Jefe del Departamento de Investigación de la Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua, 2005 a 2018. Cuenta con experiencia como Jefe del Departamento de Posgrado, 2009 – 2010. Ha fungido como Investigador Titular “A” en el centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo A.C. 1997 – 1999.
    Se ha desarrollado como Jefe “L” de Servicios Federales en el Departamento de Zonas Áridas en la Escuela Nacional de Agricultura, 1975 – 1976. Tiene experiencia como Catedrático de la Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua y otras escuelas a nivel nacional.
