Abstract

Flexibility is an important component of physical fitness, is important to the performance of daily life and sports activities. Intrinsic and extrinsic factors determine flexibility and Titin is a very important intrinsic factor due to concentrations of its isoforms and its mobility. The objective of this study was to compare the concentration amounts and the relative mobility of Titin T1 and T2 isoforms after the execution of elongation and active and passive stretching techniques. To do it, 51 male subjects with age varying to 19 to 26 years and at least 6 months of physical training were divided into three groups: elongation, active stretching, and passive stretching. Elongation did not cause any significant changes in the percentages and in the mobility of Titin isoforms. Stretching decreased T1 isoform, augmented T2 isoforms, and give more relative mobility to Titin T1 and T2 isoforms. Passive stretching altered more Titin isoforms concentration of T1 (Δ% = -11.30 % to p < 0.05) and T2 (Δ% = 21.45 % to p < 0.05). Active stretching improves more relative mobility of T1 (Δ% = 26.53 % to p < 0.05) and T2 (Δ% = 10.96 % to p < 0.05) Titin isoforms.
