Abstract

The design and operation of Lean continual improvement programs are long-term strategy to improve the companies’ operative performance. Their design is generally inspired on the Toyota Production System and lean production. The maturity degree of the Lean continual improvement program is associated with plant better productivity. The purpose of this research is to know the maturity degree of Lean improvement programs implemented in automotive multinational manufacture companies. The methodological design was mainly quantitative. A Survey was used in a specialized platform in internet and it was applied via Linkedin for data recollection. With a sample of 157 plants, 10.1 % showed a high maturity degree in their Lean continual improvement program, 61 % showed a high conformation degree according to the research model used. In order to identify the Lean techniques with higher implementation degree, a k-means cluster analysis was performed. The results indicate that quality at the source, 5´s and standard work are the lean techniques with higher implementation degree. Lean techniques with lower implementation degree are conceptually associated with Just in time pillar in the Toyota Production System model.
