Environmental education is key towards achieving a sustainable use of natural resources, especially in fragile desert environments like the Chihuahuan Desert. Strategies are needed to include more local environmental education both in the class curriculum and outside the classroom. One of these strategies is placed-based education, which emphasizes the teaching of geography and wildlife of the region, as well as the region’s natural and cultural resources. A proactive effort to this purpose is the children’s activity book Juega y Aprende con Animales del Desierto de Chihuahua, whose activities complement environmental education by providing information about region’s wildlife. This book is available to educators by Internet.
