The impact of mixed cow-sheep and mono-species (cow) grazing on two types of pasture was evaluated; Alfalfa- orchardgrass (Medicago sativa-Dactylis glomerata) and another with oats-annual ryegrass (Avena sativa-Lolium multiflorum), using Holstein cows and Creole ewes, on the quality, development and yield of forage. The study was developed under a completely randomized design with two replications. The type of grazing did not influence (p> 0.05) in quantity, botanical composition and height of the forage offered. The diet of mixed grazing cows on alfalfa- orchardgrass showed four times more (p <0.05) dead material than that of the mono-species. Ewes consumed more (p <0.05) alfalfa and annual ryegrass leaves than the accompanying cows. Only in alfalfa- orchardgrass the cows in grazing monospecies grazed 55% more time (p <0.05) than those of the mixed one. The mixed grazing cow- ewe in pastures of two forage species, allows greater stocking rate, without damaging the regrowth and greater efficiency of forage harvest than the mono-species.
