Abstract

In this study, the formation of poly (ethylene glycol) particles in the presence of calcitonin of various sizes is
presented. The present work had as objective to show an easy route for the formation of news biomaterials by using biological systems. The samples of poly(ethylene glycol) were prepared with calcitonine; subsequently the samples were subjected to a treatment at 28°C. The structural and morphological characteristics were determined using XRay Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, and Transmission Electron Microscopy. Results showed the formation of particles with
size of 1 to 3 μm in diameter. The presence of crystalline phase was not detected by X-Ray Diffraction. Also particles of 5 nm were observed in composite structure; this result is important in medicine, since poly(ethylene glycol)/Calcitonin particles could be applied as pharmaceutical vehicles.
