Abstract

Wastewater of industries as tannery, dairy products and pharmacology (sodium heparine), have high concentrations of NaCl, consequently it represent high cost of treatment by a traditional technique. Thus the main reason on this research is, to propouse an alternative way to remove salts, through phytoremediation process. The aim of this research was evaluate germination and behavior of Sporobolus airoides to remove NaCl through phytoremediation technique. Step I, had been settled the most effective method of germination, using a Hoagland Nutrient Solution, (SNH) and four germination methods. Step II, the plants were transplanted on three different types suport media (perlite, oasis sponge and pellets) and stock solutions concentration of NaCl 0.034, 0.342, 0.686 y 1.028 M, and blank had been used. Part of the step II parameters as germination percentage, number of leaves, radicular lenght, hydric potential, electrical conductivity (EC) had been measured and evaluated at the beginin and after 15 days of contact with 10 plants of SAI. The most effective germination method had been method 4 (see methods and materials). The remotion percentage reach by this specie was 20 % of NaCl, also Sporobolus airoides achieve to survive in saline enviroments at 1.028 M of NaCl during 15 days, which is very impotant plant to be considered as a phytoremediation specie and treat polluted effluents specially with high concentrations of NaCl.
