Abstract

The Nymphaeaceae family consists of about three to six genera and 58 to 70 freshwater species, in Mexico two genera are distributed with a total of 13 species among which is Nymphaea gracilis, which is endemic to the country. In Aguascalientes it is a rare species reported for the municipalities of Aguascalientes, Jesús María and San José de Gracia. The objective of this study is to contribute to the knowledge of N. gracilis in Aguascalientes, providing a morphological description accompanied by photographs of important structures for identification, a distribution map and historical data. By means of bibliography and herbarium specimens, localities were obtained in which N. gracilis is distributed within the state; these localities were visited to take pictures of living individuals and collect specimens. Based on the information obtained from herbarium material and the collections made, a distribution map was prepared. A specimen of this species is one of the first botanical collections made in the state.
