Abstract

Sometimes the apple trees in Cuauhtémoc Chihuahua faces an excessive growth of brushes. It has been caused a competition for light and nutrients. The synthetic vegetal growth regulators are used to reduce brushes length without changing the growing patterns and without causing tree toxicity. The objective of this study was to evaluate effects of Prohexadione-Calcium (Apogee 27.5%) dose on brushes growth and on Erwinia amilovora response. Three treatments were compared by using a randomized complete block design with 8 replications. The foliage application was done on the Golden delicious cultivar, in 2005 with three dates: April 22, may 6, and may 20. Two Apogee doses were evaluated, 149.9 and 206.3 g of active ingredient, each of one was mixed in 1000 l of water. Treatment number 3 was represented by the control. The experimental unit consisted of three ten years old trees while the sampling plot was represented by middle tree. In the first application, the Apogee doses were statistically no significant. Fourteen days after the second application, it was observed a significant decrease in brushes growth associated to a high Apogee dose. Apogee dose had not toxicity effect on apple trees. Between the third and fourth sampling period were observed main effects of the Apogee.
