An editor for scale construction and application through a personal computer

This report details a computerized system that allows researchers to construct, apply and tabulate paper-and-pencil surveys and instruments in an automated manner. In addition, research is reported where its use is exemplified. The results of this system allow it to be considered an effective means for the construction of measurement instruments by making it possible to store data without previous coding stages, with greater precision and speed, in addition to facilitating the recording of the latency time of the response to each item. The prospects for new versions of the system make it possible to think of expanding the contents to be evaluated, generating expert correction systems, administration via the Internet, selecting the best items for certain evaluation objectives (optimal tests) or for certain people (computerized adaptive tests).
