Improvisation as a creative expression in the professional training of actors -between the formal and the experiential-

Abstract

Improvisation is a resource widely used by actors and constitutes a fundamental part of their acting training at all levels. It represents an invaluable resource, but its essence has been devalued in many ways. It should not be confused: acting is not improvised, but acting is improvised. To take advantage of this resource, the actor must resort to continuous preparation, constant training to keep alive the means of expression that represents his working tool: his body. However, the actor's creative expression is a place that can only be reached with formal and continuous training; it is the basis for the construction of the actor's craft. It is necessary to provide spaces for the training and development of theater at all levels of education in our country, with concrete proposals that contribute to the training of actors and the generation of artistic activities. The objective of this article is to expose the importance of improvisation in acting training between Diderot's formal school and Stanislavsky's experiential paradigm and, from this, to develop a proposal that allows the integration of current elements and their relevance in the training of theater makers in higher education institutions in Mexico.
