An analysis of the main concepts of general systems theory is presented through a comparison of the definitions of several authors, to review how each is conformed and determine the common elements and, based on them, to elaborate a more complete and global definition. Different classifications of systems, their components and features are presented. The importance of the feedback process and the mechanism of control are highlighted, showing the usefulness of the interdisciplinary theory; putting emphasis on the application it has in the Social Sciences.
