Tannins are high molecular weight secondary phenolic compounds present in nature. Are frequently found in fruits, trees, temperate forages and other species such as sorghum and corn, commonly used in cattle feeding. Recently it has been found that the addition of tannins to bovine diets favors the low ruminal fermentation of the protein in the diet, which would improve the productive behavior in ruminants. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine the effect of the addition of tannins in the diet of lambs for fattening to evaluate the productive behavior. Were used 32 lambs, 16 males and 16 females with a mean initial weight of 23 ± 0.167 kg and 20 ± 0.188 kg, respectively. The experimental units were assigned to one of the following groups: male basal diet (MT1), female basal diet (HT1), male basal diet plus 4 g of tannins/kg of food (MT2) and female basal diet plus 4 g of tannins/kg of food (HT2). For the design of the experiment it was blocked by sex and live weight and then assigned to one of the groups. For the total of the test only in the males it was observed that the absence of tannins in the diet increased the consumption of dry matter and the daily weight gain (GDP); regarding dietary efficiency, there was no difference between treatments. In general, the presence of tannins had a negative effect on males but not on females.
