Aim of this study was to evaluate the academic influence of a group of professors, students, and graduates of the Ingeniero Agrónomo Program at Instituto Tecnológico de Chiná (ITCh), Campeche, in a linkage project with sheep producers near ITCh through a technology transfer program. The study lasted 3 years (2002-2005) divided in 3 phases (preliminary, organizational, and methodological phases) by means of visits, workshops, and technical tours. Twenty producers of 6 farms near ITCh were involved in the study; of these farms, 5 were highly-technical farms, 7 were medium-technical farms, and 8 were backyard farms, with breeding ewes averages per farms of 160 ± 12, 95 ± 7, and 45 ± 5, respectively. Criteria for evaluation were a) animal production, b) academic productivity, and c) organization of producers. Since this was a descriptive study, percentages and averages were only calculated from data collected, as descriptive statistics. At the end of the study improvements were observed on lambing percentages and lamb survival, improved sires and forages were introduced, the fattening period was reduced and the sale price increased at the same time. On the academic side there were training, social service, theses and exams, written reports and works by profesors published, and a scientific-technological approach in graduates. Finally, producers now attend more frequently technical events in the zone, and show more interest and dinamics in courses, workshops, and technical meetings.
