Groundwater is a resource essential for the development of populations. The accelerated urban growth in the cities of the world is one of the main causes of the pressure on availability on the resource. Population growth, and the lack of planning for the proper management of the resource are causing a decrease in groundwater levels, generating a change in the direction of groundwater flow. This paper discusses the evolution of static groundwater levels of the Bolson del Hueco aquifer over a period of 39 years (1975-2014). It also estimates the direction of groundwater flow in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Geostatistical modeling procedures were used by applying Kriging interpolation method while using information from the Water and Sanitation Board (JMAS). The information is a historical record of the static groundwater levels for 1974, 1994 and 2014.The results show the depth of static water levels in the region has varied throughout this time period from 30 m to 140 m, generating local cones of depression mainly in the downtown area of the city. New urban development policies are required that could help the aquifer to accomplish a sustainable approach since presently it has generated negative consequences such as overexploitation of the aquifer.
