Abstract

This Research Project was conducted at the facilities of the Female Center for Social Readaptation (CERESO) for Women #1, located in the Municipality of Aquiles Serdán in the state of Chihuahua. Objective: To promote the comprehensive development of CERESO's minor residents through an Early Stimulation (ES) program. Method: Children were assessed with the Infant Development Assessment (EDI), an instrument validated by the Hospital Infantil de México, which is used to screen the development of minors up to 5 years of age; based on the results, ES programs were designed for two groups of minors: infants (1 boy, age = 21 months) and maternal (2 boys, ages = 31, 34; and 1 girl, age = 40 months), in both cases, the mothers actively participated. Results. The evaluation of the children after the intervention showed that their motor, language and cognitive abilities were appropriate for their age. Mothers showed a greater understanding of early stimulation. Conclusion. Through the intervention with the ES program, the abilities of the minors were maintained, and the knowledge and importance of stimulation in the first years of life was promoted among the mothers.
