Sports trainer professional competencies: Systematic Review

Professional competencies are the set of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that enable quality in a dynamic context. In view of autonomy, responsibility and adaptation to various contexts, the sports coach needs to demonstrate a competent performance in terms of his job. Objective. To know the state of the art of the study of the professional competences of the sports coach and their current configuration in the scientific literature, in order to identify those that define a competent performance. Search for information. It was carried out in the databases EBSCO, Eric, Redalyc, SciELO, Science Direct, Web of science and Scopus, with the keywords in Spanish: Competencias, entrenador deportivo, in English: Competencies, sports coach, and in Portuguese: Competências and treinador desportivo with the use of the Boolean AND. A total of 1324 articles were identified; 1315 articles were discarded for not meeting the inclusion criteria, 9 were selected, 3 were excluded due to duplication, leaving 6 articles for analysis. Results. There is a wide range of competencies of the sports coach that can be grouped into psycho-pedagogical and didactic, technical-tactical, sociocultural and sports management aspects. Being very important for coaches the formative aspects and their impact on the athlete's life. It is necessary that the values learned in sport are applied in extra-sporting areas. Conclusions. More research is needed on the competencies of the sports coach, to reach a consensus on them for their development and consolidation, articulating the academic, labor, research and personological aspects
