The study inquired about the teaching methodologies of sport that are currently carried out by the teachers of Uruguayan public schools, both in their representations and in the methodological proposals for teaching. A mixed strategy was used, using questionnaires, individual and group interviews and non-participant observations. The results show, on the one hand, the predominance of technical models in the teaching of sport in this context and the correspondence with teaching activities of the same type; on the other hand, that both questions are incongruous with the representations that teachers have on the same subject. We conclude that the representations about the methodologies do not always correspond to the pedagogical and didactic work that is launched in the school teaching practice; such distortion, on several occasions, does not seem to be noticed by teachers. In this sense, we could anticipate that both the purposes of the teaching practices, as well as the contents of sports teaching, the organization and development of the classes, would require, in the future, to be reviewed by the teaching staff themselves.
