Abstract

The following research paper presents an analytical review of the fantastic tale “La sirena” by the Mexican author Justo Sierra, the analysis will revolve around three main theoretical concepts; intertextuality, myth and mytheme. These concepts help and allow to find relationships between mythical narratives, mainly Hellenic, and contemporary narratives in different contexts, in this case a Mexican context. It is the intertextuality that which allows an understanding on how literature uses, in some cases at least, mythology as a source of inspiration allowing for a renewal of the old mythos through the current literature as it is the case of “La sirena” by Justo Sierra
