“La sunamita”, abuse and subjugation in familial relationships

Abstract

Through her tale “La sunamita”, Inés Arredondo narrates the forbidden; situations
which befall reality, but don’t seem relevant because of the dreadfulness of the events. It is
within the familial contexts where the great majority of power relationships, supported by
patriarchal structures, are developed. Causing harm to women, in the form of abuse and
subjugation. From the concepts, gathered by Phd. Marcela Lagarde, certain identities and
their creation are explained as well as how these change the very course of the tale.
