Abstract

The videogame franchise The Legend of Zelda is one of the richest in lore in the videogame industry, and either consciously or unconsciously, this has been influenced profoundly in the celtic culture in general, and in epic fantasy literature in particular, which comes from the forementioned celtic peoples. The mythology of TLOZ, whilst original in name and appearances of the creatures and <<races>> depicted, it possesses similitudes with those creatures from, mainly, irish mythology, as well of those that appear as well in Tolkien’s work. Parallelisms between the Master Sword in TLOZ and Excalibur in the legend of the Sword in the Stone, or the existence of a she-horse named Epona in Ocarina of Time, name that shares with the celtic deity, are indicative of how there was an inspiration of this nature in Nintendo’s creation.
