Disruptores endocrinos: impacto en ejes hormonales y estrategias nutricionales. Revisión narrativa

Los disruptores endocrinos (EDCs, por sus siglas en inglés) son contaminantes ambientales capaces de alterar los complejos sistemas hormonales desde el desarrollo fetal. Esta revisión narrativa sintetiza los mecanismos de acción de los EDCs en los principales ejes hormonales y analiza intervenciones nutricionales como estrategias preventivas. Mediante una búsqueda exhaustiva en PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science y SciELO, se identificó que la exposición a EDCs ocurre principalmente por alimentos contaminados, ya sea de forma natural o por migración desde envases. Los ftalatos, bisfenol A, PCBs, aditivos alimentarios y metales pesados interfieren con proteínas transportadoras y receptores hormonales, provocando trastornos del desarrollo, metabólicos y reproductivos. La evidencia sugiere que una dieta equilibrada puede contrarrestar estos efectos adversos mediante tres mecanismos: reducción de la ingesta de EDCs, prevención de su acumulación en el organismo, y suministro de nutrientes esenciales y compuestos bioactivos (vitamina C, E, betacaroteno, flavonoides, coenzima Q-10, ácidos grasos omega-3 y polifenoles) que mitigan el estrés oxidativo y la inflamación inducidos por EDCs. Se propone integrar la evaluación de exposición a EDCs en la práctica clínica con el fin de mejorar el diagnóstico temprano y el tratamiento de enfermedades no transmisibles.
