Prevalence of overweight, obesity and metabolic risk in Chihuahuan adolescents

Objective: To determine the prevalence of overweight, obesity and metabolic risk in adolescents between 12 and 15 years of age in the city of Chihuahua. Methodology: Cross-sectional design study where 459 high school students were evaluated. Weight and height were measured to classify them by BMI using the FANTA PROJECT criteria, waist circumference to determine metabolic risk, descriptive statistics were performed in the SPSS program. Results: According to the FANTA PROJECT criteria, the prevalence of overweight was 27.3% and obesity 32.8%, with overweight being greater in girls than in boys, but not in the case of obesity, In turn, 20.3% suffer from high metabolic risk. and 18.1% a very high metabolic risk. Conclusions: Obesity and overweight in Chihuahuan adolescents are prevalent problems in the city of Chihuahua.
