Artificial Inteligence use policy

Taking as primary reference the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Economicus Journal of Business and Economics Insights (JBEI) recognizes that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools may serve as auxiliary technologies, providing useful support when applied responsibly and prudently. Their use must be declared in detail, and all outputs must be reviewed, corrected, and approved by human authors. This duty of transparency is consistent with the principles of open science, which promote traceability and reproducibility of research.

Economicus JBEI establishes the following policy on the use of AI in scientific publications to uphold the highest standards of scientific integrity while acknowledging the capabilities offered by AI systems.

1. Purpose

This policy sets forth the guidelines for the use of AI in manuscripts submitted to Economicus JBEI. Its objective is to promote transparency, scientific quality, and proper recognition of all tools employed in the research and communication of results.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all authors submitting manuscripts to Economicus JBEI.

3. Definitions

AI applications in research and scholarly communication may involve various systems and tools, including:

  • Generative AI: Systems capable of producing text, images, or other content based on patterns learned from large datasets.
  • AI Agents: Advanced systems that can perform complex tasks, make autonomous decisions, and interact with their environment.
  • AI Tools: Including, but not limited to:
    • Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc., and platforms using LLMs such as SciSpace, Consensus, and Elicit.
    • Image generators.
    • AI agents specialized in scientific tasks or data analysis.
    • AI systems for experiment automation or results processing.

4. Policy on Use

  • Authors must explicitly declare the use of any AI tool in their manuscript.
  • AI tools must be properly cited in the References section, following APA 7 format.
  • An Artificial Intelligence use section is included at the end of the document, in accordance with the journal’s IA use policy and is cited accordingly in the manuscript based on the APA Manual for IA use transparency.
  • Generative AI must not be used to create or manipulate research data.
  • The use of AI does not exempt authors from full responsibility for the content of their manuscripts.
  • Authors must carefully review and edit any AI-generated text to ensure accuracy and relevance, particularly given the risk of “hallucinations” in generative AI outputs.

5. Review Process

The Editorial Committee will evaluate the declared use of AI in the context of the manuscript’s theoretical, empirical, and methodological contribution. The Editorial Committee reserve the right to request additional information regarding AI use.

6. Consequences of Non-Compliance

Failure to comply with this policy may result in:

  • Rejection of the manuscript.
  • Retraction of published articles.
  • Temporary or permanent prohibition from publishing in Economicus JBEI.
