Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of digital media on the receptive vocabulary of adolescents in the city of Chihuahua, based on an intervention aimed at strengthening language skills. A quantitative research approach was used, following the positivist paradigm. The sample included seven secondary school students; selection criteria were based on convenience sampling. The Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test was used for pre-test and post-test assessment to identify the level of receptive vocabulary and areas for improvement. The results show interindividual variability. The findings suggest that, while digital media generate new forms of linguistic interaction characterized by immediacy and language economy, systematic pedagogical mediation promotes the strengthening of receptive vocabulary. It is concluded that receptive vocabulary is a relevant indicator of cognitive development and access to complex academic learning; therefore, it is recommended that educational strategies be designed to promote the reflective use of language in digital contexts.
