Ocio valioso y The King of Fighters en México

Abstract

In the present work, the introduction and popularity in Mexico of The King of Fighters franchise are studied using the concept of valuable leisure, as explained by Manuel Cuenca in Ocio Valioso, with the purpose to find the positive possibilities of the video game. The work starts by discussing the arrival of the video game franchise in Mexico, the ways it was experimented and it’s impact. Later, the concept of valuable leisure, its characteristics, coordinates and dimensions are examined. Lastly, the idea of valuable leisure will be used to interpret the way The King of Fighters was experimented in Mexico. This will allow to assert that, while the video game has the potential to be a form of valuable leisure, it depends of complicated, subjective and objective factors. In this manner, the work helps the current research in digital leisure, because it studies specifics manifestations, possibilities and risks.
