Etérea by Iram Evangelista, Between The Abject And The Everyday: A Poetics Of Decomposition

Abstract

Etérea forms a narrative universe where death, illness, violence, and decay are part of an imminent normality. Etérea articulates an aesthetic in which the abject and the ethereal blend and contrast within the everyday. In this text, I will analyze how, in the stories “Violeta,” “El pesar de los días,” and “Siamara,” the body is situated at the intersection of shadow, the abject, and the everyday. The insistence on the corporeal—its degradation, its violence, its smell—could be interpreted as an exploration of the limits of representation combined with a natural and authentic tone.
