This work analyzes the relationship between literature and visuality through the textual and filmic study of Tengo miedo torero and its homonymous film adaptation, directed by Rodrigo Sepúlveda. The aim is to discuss the way the performative registers of the text are reformulated through the cinematic language of melodrama. The central hypothesis argues that the novel is written as a performative travesty, a hybrid regime in which the narrative is constantly traversed by theatricality. This is due to the fact that the narration is mediated by the gaze of La Loca del Frente, whose identity and experience are constructed through performances grounded in exaggeration. Consequently, such performativity not only organizes the work’s diegesis, but also introduces a scenic and visual logic that the film intensifies through the use of music, costumes, and the camera
