Fuego y amor en la lírica de Petrarca, Gaspara Stampa y Quevedo

Abstract

The objective of this essay is to carry out an intertextual-comparative analysis about the fire’s motives, the salamander and phoenix as symbols of loving passion and the souring of the semplicetta farfalla around the light, the neoplatonic philosophy about the elevation of the soul or the sublimity of love feelings on the first part of the canzone 135 and the 185 Petrarch’s sonnet wherein the poet uses the phoenix image to express his emotions and the desire of sublimity by Laura. In contrast with the Stampa’s sonnet 206 in which she compares herself with a phoenix that never turn out and Quevedo´s sonnets “Salamandra frondosa y bien poblada” and “Del sol huyendo el mismo sol buscaba” wherein the figures of the phoenix and the salamander are passion symbols.
