Criminological analysis of female crime
Why worry about the study of female delinquents?

This paper explains gender´s role in the explanation of criminal behavior considering feminist Criminology as a general vision of female criminality, generating a discussion about theories. Situations of female crime will be criminological analyzed regarding: factors, characteristics and needs. In criminal justice system women and adolescents are considered as a legally disadvantaged group; historically penitentiary regimes -thought and designed for men- treated females as males. Penitentiary regimes tend to be more severe, repressive and discriminatory. Therefore: why worry about the study of female delinquents? Are there male and female crime patterns? Should criminal justice policies be different for each gender?
