Estrategias de difusión para revistas científicas en entornos digitales

En esta entrega de Escuela de editores discuto la importancia de desarrollar estrategias de difusión para revistas científicas en entornos digitales. Parto de una premisa sencilla, pero a veces olvidada por los editores: una revista académica no termina su trabajo cuando publica un artículo. La publicación es apenas el punto de partida de una cadena más amplia de visibilidad, circulación, lectura, descarga, uso y eventual citación. A partir de evidencia reciente, presento argumentos para sostener que las acciones de difusión pueden aumentar las visitas, las descargas, la atención en redes sociales, las métricas alternativas (altmetría) y, en ciertos casos, las citas. Asimismo, reviso las distintas estrategias de difusión que pueden emplear las revistas científicas: resúmenes en video, resúmenes visuales (visual abstracts), infografías, publicaciones en redes sociales, campañas multicanal, resúmenes en lenguaje sencillo, blogs editoriales y notas web, boletines y alertas de contenido, notas de prensa, podcasts, optimización para buscadores, paquetes de difusión para autores, colecciones temáticas y la integración con repositorios. El propósito de este artículo es ofrecer recomendaciones prácticas para que las revistas trasciendan la concepción de sus portales como repositorios pasivos y los gestionen como plataformas para la circulación activa del conocimiento.
